Finally, an Idaein We Can All Agree On.
It's been suggested that Idaenin (cyanidin 3-O-galactoside) type of anthocyanins can cross the blood-brain barrier. We don't agree or disagree — we're berry pickers, not molecular scientists. But here's what we do know: Red Berries grow through long Arctic summer days under intense UV radiation, and their shield against it is a vibrant red pigment called idaein. And like the Apple it is concentrated in the skin. Red Berries have the highest concentration of idaein of any food on the planet. The chemical naming of idaein comes directly from the botanical name Vaccinium vitis-idaea.subs.minus
We're not about to say our berry skins will boost your brainpower. But we can say, with the utmost confidence, that they'll make you a whole lot smarter than smart popcorn, smart water, or Smarties.
